Suite à la question posée par un utilisateur de reddit "What is a podcast ?" des
réponses intéressantes furent apportées, je me devais de les rapporter ici pour d'eventuels anglophones amateurs de causeries radiophoniques.
The entire
Radiotopia collective is fantastic. Story driven and well produced.
-
99% Invisible - Outstanding show that is primarily about design, but concentrates on the invisible work that goes into things that we rarely notice or think about.
-
Love + Radio - IMO the best podcast currently being released. Nick van der Kolk and other collaborators interview a variety of people from Genesis P'Orridge, pansexual frontperson of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, to a woman who makes her living by blackmailing paedophiles (award-winning episode 'Jack & Ellen')
-
Fugitive Waves - Pioneering producers the Kitchen Sisters' new project. Faultlessly constructed from old and new recordings.
-
Benjamen Walker's Theory of Everything - Former WFMU stalwart's project that looks to 'connect the dots', looks at technology amongst other things, but is heavy on Walker's radio monologues which he is well known for.
-
The Truth - Very well produced audio fiction.
-
Radio Diaries - First broadcast in the 90s on NPR, Radio Diaries gave recorders to teenagers across the country for them to use as they please. Producer Joe Richman then arranged them for radio. Fantastic idea, currently Kickstarting a new season.
-
Strangers - Lea Thau, former creative head at The Moth, hosts this show about normal people's stories.
Outside of Radiotopia:
-
WireTap - Jonathan Goldstein, former producer at This American Life, hosts this show that is part fiction, part documentary and built around monologues on a weekly theme.
-
KCRW's Unfictional - Independent producer project at KCRW, can be something of a mixed bag, but legendary producer Joe Frank is currently releasing material through UnFictional and it's definitely worth a listen.
-
Accidental Tech Podcast - Tech discussion show with Marco Arment (creator of Instapaper), John Syracusa (writer with Ars) and Casey Liss (no idea).
-
Blank on Blank - short form show of lost interviews with a wide variety of people.
-
KCRW's Bookworm - Michael Silverblatt is an outstanding interviewer of authors, poets etc.
-
Bullseye with Jesse Thorn - Jesse Thorn is the head of the Maximum Fun network of podcasts (judge john hodgman, the memory palace et al.). Bullseye is a cultural digest of interviews with everyone from rappers to jazz musicians to actors, showrunners and authors. He's an affable and in-depth interviewer.
-
Criminal - Host Phoebe Judge covers criminals and forensics. Fascinating and well produced.
-
Everything Sounds - About sound design, sound art etc.
-
Faculty of Horror - About horror movies and the tropes. Likeable, perceptive hosts that add a feminist reading to classic movies.
-
Great Lives - BBC biography show about historical figures.
-
How Sound - A podcast about podcasts/radio and their production.
-
Here's The Thing with Alec Baldwin - Notorious homophone Baldwin interviews celebrities. Fortunately he's a good, pragmatic interviewer.
-
HereBeMonsters - Heavily produced podcast about 'the unknown'. Covers anything that is outside of normal experience. Gets a bit weird sometimes.
-
History of Philosophy (without any gaps) - Exhaustive history of philosophy split into 30 min pieces. Very in-depth, probably not for everyone.
-
In Our Time - Long running BBC show hosted by the inimitable Melvyn Bragg. Experts, usually from top universities in the UK and abroad, are brought in to discuss everything from photosynthesis to The Talmud.
-
Intelligence Squared - Oxford-style debate.
-
A Life Well Wasted - Seems to have fallen inactive, but this wonderfully produced podcast looks at videogames culture and gamers.
-
On The Media - 'meta-news' show from WNYC. Looks at how particular news organisations portray current events, as well as doing their own investigative journalism. Hosted by veterans Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield.
-
The Partially Examined Life - Casual discussions on particular philosophical texts. Very entertaining.
-
Planet Money - This American Life offshoot that looks at current economic events.
-
State of the Re:Union - Looks at particular locations in the US, and covers stories from there.
-
StoryCorps - From NPR, short interviews with normal people. A regular tear-jerker.
-
Studio360 - Author Kurt Andersen does cultural analysis and interviews with musicians, actors etc.
-
Stylus - Audio design and sound art again.
-
Third Coast International Re:sound - Curated selection of radio and podcasts from around the world. Indispensable.
-
This I Believe - Show from the 50s, brought back to life by Jay Allison. Essays from men and women on what they believe in.
-
KCRW's The Treatment - Elvis Mitchell interviews actors, directors, producers, writers about their tv and cinema projects. Excellent, perceptive interviews.
